Intramurals
Over the weekend, the basic cadets have been full of
testing and briefs. Today all the basics started out with some fun. It was the
beginning of Intramurals. This gave them the opportunity to play the different
sports or participating with their Intercollegiate (IC) team. Again, even
though Graham was recruited to fence on the USAFA IC fencing team, he opted to
just get adjusted this year and really become the best cadet he can be. There was also concern over being privileged as a IC athlete, and getting out of squadron events due to the practices for fencing.
At the United States Air Force Academy, every cadet is an
athlete. The intramural program not only provides cadets with an enjoyable
way to exercise, it’s one of the best leadership opportunities the Academy has
to offer. It is mandatory for all members of the cadet wing to either
participate in the intramural program or compete at the intercollegiate level.
Intramural athletes practice or compete in a variety of sports at
least twice a week during each season of competition. Over 3,000 cadets
participate each season, holding nearly 90 contests each afternoon. The
intramural program generates nearly 1,000 leadership opportunities for cadets
each year, including coaching, officiating and administrative duties.

It appears that Graham got to play soccer on this occasion. With
that super short haircut, it took his mother to actually spy him in action.
