First Day of School

For the past 13 years, Graham would dutifully line up for the obligatory “First Day of School” photo. Why should that change this year?

Through the years some things remained the same: Graham’s excitement to be with his friends, his desire to learn new things and he usually had a new shirt to wear. Some things were more variable: the number of teeth that were missing, who was driving him and his attitude toward the photographer, usually me.

This year much has changed. His new shirt is a camouflage ABU or Airman Battle Uniform. He’s got all his teeth but his hair is missing. The photo’s backdrop is not our Plymouth driveway but the Colorado Rockies.

However, Thursday, as in the past, Graham started a new year of classes with a great attitude and an eagerness to learn.

Some things never change.
